Holding on to values the key to success

Starting out in 1990 as a small accounting firm, the 2017 Dalby Business of the Year, BMO Business Centre, has proven that it’s possible for a regional firm to achieve sustainable growth. Today BMO has a team of more than 50 professionals who offer a full range of financial, accounting and business services.

Having won the Business of the Year and Judge’s Choice for Professional Services, and been recognised as a top 100 Australian accounting firm, BMO puts its success down to having a genuine passion for making a difference in people’s lives.

“We’ve been prepared to try new things, to be nimble,” said BMO Partner Adrian Rasmussen. When we noticed clients were confused by employment rules, we brought in HR services, when loans were getting tougher to secure, we added our finance brokerage service.

“We look at the challenges faced by our clients and say ‘how can we help them solve this?’”

He said that while the past year has been a tough one for various local industries, there’s been glimpses of positivity too.

“Through the ups and downs, our goal is to walk alongside our clients.  It doesn’t matter if you’re in your first part time job, or a multi-million dollars business, we work with you to help you achieve your goals.  There’s such diversity and talent in our Dalby business community. We loved seeing our clients up on the stage on Saturday night receiving awards too.  It gives us joy to see them succeeding.”

Adrian, who has been with BMO from its inception, said that the team culture is something BMO has fiercely protected.

“Our biggest fear was as we got bigger we might lose our personal approach, our family feel. But we have made a deliberate effort to hold on to our values. We encourage our team members to work hard and push themselves out of their comfort zones, but we also make sure we have a lot of fun while we’re doing it. The genuine care and support in our team, their can-do attitudes and willingness to go the extra mile for their teammates and their clients makes us so proud.”
