1st July 2011

From July 1 parents of school students may be able to claim back some of the cost of children’s school uniforms as part of their 2011-2012 tax return.
The planned new ruling is part of the education tax refund which was first introduced in 2008 to provide relief to parents for the cost of educating children.
Items of clothing including hats, footwear and sports uniforms approved by a school as its uniform will be able to be claimed.
Remember to make a claim you need to make sure your receipts for the purchases of educational expenses are clearly detailed and safely stored for tax time.
